Process


Applications for admission are accepted starting September 1 for the following academic year. Please read below for a five-step guide on how to navigate the admissions process. Decision letters are mailed out in early March.

1. Attend an Information Session

Please join us to learn more about our Lower, Middle and Upper Schools at one of the following information sessions this fall.

  • Wednesday, October 4, 7–8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 7, 9–10 a.m.
  • Thursday, December 7, 9–10 a.m.

2. Apply Online (Deadline: January 12)

Complete the online application as early in the fall as possible. There is a $75 application fee; however, if you are applying for financial aid, you may request an application fee waiver by completing the Fee Waiver Request Form. Applications must be submitted by January 12. Applications received after January 12 will be reviewed after previous admissions decisions have been mailed.

3. Schedule an Interview and Tour (Deadline: January 31)

Once you have completed the application, please email admissions@landon.net or call 301-320-1067 to schedule an appointment for you and your son to visit Landon. Again, an application must be submitted to the Admissions Office prior to the appointment. The 90-minute appointment is scheduled during school hours and includes an interview and campus tour for your family. The appointment must be completed by January 31.

4. Request and Submit a Transcript (Deadline: January 31)

Submit the Transcript Request Form to your son’s current school. The official transcript must include half of the current year’s grades and all of last year’s grades and testing information. Click here to download a printable copy of the Transcript Request. Your son’s current school must mail the transcript directly to Landon’s Admissions Office by January 31.

5. Request and Submit Teacher Recommendations and Schedule and Submit Testing (Deadline: January 31)

Lower School (Grades 3-5)

Teacher Recommendations

Applicants to Grades 3–5 should have their current homeroom teacher submit one teacher recommendation. The homeroom teacher can access the online teacher recommendation. The teacher recommendation must be submitted online no later than Wednesday, January 31.

Admissions Testing

Applicants to Grades 3 and 4:

  • Register your son to take the Landon admissions test. The test will be administered at Landon on Saturday, January 6, 2017.
  • The Third Grade admissions test consists of the following subtests: reading comprehension, mathematics, spelling and a short writing exercise.
  • The Fourth Grade admissions test consists of the following subtests: reading comprehension, mathematics, spelling and a short writing exercise.
  • Sign up for the Grade 3 and 4 admissions test now. A test letter will also be mailed to all applicants in December.

Applicants to Grade 5:

Completed Applicant File

All supporting documents are due to Landon no later than Wednesday, January 31. To check the status of an applicant’s supporting documents, please log onto your Landon admissions online account. After the admissions office receives supporting documents, applicant’s accounts will be updated within 48 hours. Parents are encouraged to periodically review the status of their accounts to be sure all necessary documents are completed and received on time.

An applicant’s file is complete when it contains:

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Teacher Recommendations

Applicants to Grades 6–8 must submit both an English and a math teacher recommendation. Teachers can access the online recommendation forms directly at:

Landon accepts either the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) for the admissions entrance exam. Register your son for either the SSAT or the ISEE. Select the test, location and date most convenient for you.
