Unrestricted Capital Support

WE UNITE to build a stronger foundation.

While other schools have come late to initiatives like character education or the value of single-sex education, Landon has always been true to itself. We have elected not to measure our performance by the standard of other schools, but rather to seek to be true to our core values while being mindful of the changing needs of contemporary society. And so it is not because we lag behind our peer schools in endowment that we choose now to undertake this important initiative. Rather, the time has come to improve our financial well-being because it will allow our School to remain the Landon that we love.

As we address the priorities for the Landon United campaign, the pressing need for endowment crosses all areas. To support our faculty or to expand financial aid or to ensure the continuation of our most cherished programs requires that we now grow an endowment that will provide lasting support, in good times and in the not-so-good ones. Additionally, gifts to endowment that are unrestricted - given without designation as to purpose - serve to put Landon on a firmer footing by broadening its financial base, a goal that is both essential and prudent.

Further, Landon seeks major unrestricted gifts not targeted for endowment, but rather for unexpected opportunities as well as unforeseen challenges. By making such a gift, donors allow the Headmaster and Board of Trustees to direct those funds to new initiatives or to debt reduction at their discretion. Such gifts ease the burden on Landon's annual operating budget and, by extension, alleviate the need to raise tuition.

We seek $8 million for endowment, debt reduction and an Opportunity Fund.

“Our loyalty stems from our impressions of Landon – the rigor of the curriculum, the close relationships between teachers and students, and the outstanding sports program. When our son started at Landon, he was immediately inspired to apply himself far more enthusiastically.”
