Azaleas and volunteers are ready for rain or shine!
Landon's 56th Azalea Festival is off and blooming, scheduled to run from Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 3.
The gardens are bursting with colorful flowers, the vendor tent is filled to the brim with treasures and the Freed field has games for kids of every age! Volunteers have been working for months to plan the three-day festival which will raise funds for student financial assistance and faculty enrichment, rain or shine.
The festival has something for everyone to enj
oy. Again this year the Festival will offer tours of the Perkins Garden where thousands of varieties of azaleas will be in bloom, along with wildflowers and other perennials.
The Plant Sale will offer some native azaleas from Landon's garden for sale along with other nursery plants including annuals, azaleas, flowering shrubs and roses, herbs and vegetables, wildflowers and perennials, plus garden accessories.
Shoppers can visit the Boutiques tent with more than 50 different vendors, as well as the "All Things Landon" booth which features limited edition Landon burlwood frames as well as the new "Dining in the Den" azalea cookbook.
Treasure hunters should stop by the "Bearly Used Collection" featuring antiques, home furnishings and collectables. Kids will be drawn to FunLand on Freed Field with inflatable games and trackless train.
Music lovers should check out the stage on Miniter Quad throughout the weekend and also pick up tickets for "Azalea Goes Pops," the Landon Symphonette concert Saturday, May 2, at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, May 3, beginning at 8 a.m., participants will raise funds for juvenile diabetes and Landon scholarships through Mark's Run, a 5K race and 1-mile Fun Run, which honors the memory of alumnus Mark Ferris '94. Learn more or register to run at http://www.marksrun.com/.
Of special note this year is the Landon Tuition Raffle with odds of 1 in 500 of winning a year's tuition (Landon families only). Drawing for the raffle will be Sunday afternoon, so plan to stop by early before the supply is gone. Tickets are $100 each.
Parking and general admission is free. Proceeds from the Festival benefit Student Financial Assistance and Faculty Enrichment.
