Lower School
Our youngest Bears are a community within the community, 120 boys in Grades 3 through 5, housed in their own building named after our first Lower School head, Clyde Wilson. Third Grade has two homerooms, while Fourth and Fifth Grades each have three homerooms. Each class has approximately 15 students.
From the very beginning, Landon Lower School students learn how to make good things happen for themselves. They are taught to be dependable, to face challenges head-on and to enjoy life. Teachers take time to praise each boy for what he has done well, and to allow him to take responsibility for his actions.
In Lower School boys learn the basic skills in arithmetic, reading, composition writing, history and science as well as art, computers, drama and music. Daily athletics football, soccer, street hockey, basketball, tennis, wrestling, baseball, lacrosse, and track are coached by familiar Lower School teachers. Throughout the year, the Lower School experience is enriched by off-campus field trips that enrich the material learned in the classroom and encourage boys to enjoy time together in a non-classroom setting.
During these formative years, the motto is: "Take it home, get it done, bring it back — on your own."
