Upper School
The Landon Upper School, Forms III through VI (Grades 9-12), is the proving ground for transition to college and life beyond Landon.
As boys mature in the Upper School, we encourage them to develop their many talents — academic, artistic, athletic — and to pursue excellence in all. Landon's Code of Character — embracing the Honor Code and Civility Code — speaks to our most important goal, to develop young men who are known for their strong principles and their good word.
Landon's Upper School offers opportunities for growth as leaders, through clubs and organizations, student government, our prefect system and teams. Those same experiences — with fellow students and with faculty — develop friendships that can last a lifetime.
Challenging Academics
The academic backbone of our Upper School is a strong college preparatory curriculum that integrates increasingly challenging concepts and ideas in English, world languages and literature, the arts, history and social studies, mathematics, science and technology.
One hallmark of our Upper School experience is the Form V Humanities class in which boys study the spectrum of Western Thought in a class that weaves together literature, history and art. Advanced Placement courses are available in every department, and Consortium courses for juniors and seniors broaden Landon's academic opportunities. Some boys also take advantage of the opportunity to take a semester in rural Vermont or Colorado or to earn credit for Landon’s summer language programs in China, France, Italy or Spain.
Heading for College
Four college counselors reach out to juniors, seniors, and their parents to help with identifying schools, tailoring schedules, and understanding strengths and aspirations. At the end of the senior year, every student must conceive of and complete an independent, four-week (120-hour) off-campus Senior Project, the capstone of their Landon experience.
