Upper School Student Council

The Landon Upper School Student Council is an elected body consisting of 12 students representing each of the Upper School forms and a President who presides over Council meetings. There are 5 major powers and duties of the Student Council listed in its constitution. "The Student Council shall act as a liaison between the Administration and the Student Body; it shall be in charge of the annual charity drive; it shall set the tone of school spirit; it shall assist any extra-curricular activity in accomplishing its goals; finally, the Honor Code shall be maintained by the Student Council."

Maintaining Landon's Honor Code is the Council's most significant task, for in the Honor Code rest the qualities of trust and honesty that make Landon a very special environment in which to live and learn. Under the Honor Code, it is the responsibility of every Upper School student to control lying, stealing, and cheating at Landon. The council, however, is representative of these efforts and, with the assistance of a faculty advisor, is responsible for familiarizing all students with the Code and its implications and for the procedures of the Code.

Middle School Student Council

The Landon Middle School Student Council is elected each May for the following year. It consists of 8 students representing Grade 6, and Forms I and II as well as a President who presides over Council meetings.

The Middle School Student Council at Landon School serves 2 main areas of MS student life: maintaining the Honor Code, and supporting social activities. The Council observes all cases of Honor Code violations brought to trial, recommending consequences to the Senior Master as appropriate. Members present skits and speeches to their classmates to educate them about honor, integrity, and fair play.

The Council takes leadership roles at school dances and social functions, providing refreshments, setting up the function and cleaning up after it. If students wish to add additional social functions to the School Calendar, they should first seek out a Student Council member, who will work in conjunction with the Council's faculty advisor to determine if the school can accommodate the request.

Lower School Student Council

The Lower School Student Council members are elected by their peers twice a year; once in the fall and once in the winter. This gives more boys the opportunity to serve the Lower School. The council consists of 2 students from each class.

The Lower School Student Council members at Landon School serve as representatives for their class and make announcements at lunch and all-school assemblies. In past years, the council has organized service activities which have included leading students in a Walk for the Homeless, participating in "Pennies for Patients", providing money to victims of the Tsunami by reading and getting pledges for number of pages read and other fundraising efforts. The council organizes an appreciation assembly in June for the workers on the campus. They sponsor two spirit weeks, one in the fall and the other in the spring.
