Cross Country

Cross Country at Landon is all about perseverance, responsibility, and teamwork.

Nothing is more rewarding than working hard together towards a common goal with proper planning, dedication, and execution.

There will be struggles - working out outside, even in colder weather, and tough workouts, among others -but athletes will learn to be resilient through these challenges.

Our student-athletes commit to the team, positive spirit, and a desire to work hard and improve. They commit to grit and tenacity, pushing through difficulty to improve against themselves and their opponents.

Program Overview

Our Varsity Program

Athletes of all skill levels can have a place on the cross country team at Landon, since it takes no talent to be a good teammate. The only real requirements are a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. All student-athletes will have the opportunity to compete, so no one "sits on the bench.”

By the end of a season, athletes can expect to have honed such values as commitment, discipline, perseverance, and goal setting.

Unique to our program, many of the athletes on our roster do not identify as runners first.

Rather, we benefit greatly from practicing inclusivity and welcoming athletes from others sports into the fold. We therefore strongly encourage multi-sport athletes to try track & field, and we believe that the skills they develop with us translate well to their other sports.

Program Leadership

Head Coach Tom DiChiara has been teaching and coaching at Landon since 2014.

He became head coach in 2018 after supporting the team as an assistant coach of the varsity cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams. Prior to arriving at Landon, Coach DiChiara competed for Christian Brothers Academy and Georgetown University, earning All-American honors in high school and Big East All-Academic First Team honors in college. Although his days as a competitive miler are long over, he now competes in a number of marathons across the United States and around the world. In addition to his cross-country responsibilities, Coach DiChiara teaches Upper School English and coaches outdoor track & field.
