Tennis - Landon

Tennis at Landon is all about courage, perseverance, and respect.

We expect athletes in the tennis program to have a grown mentality each and every day, both at practice and during matches.

Landon tennis players must be honest and act as ambassadors of the school in every way. They must embrace excellence and be willing to work hard towards their and the team's goals, and they can do so by engaging with the program's core values:

In an individual sport such as tennis, there is no place to hide. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to put yourself out there time and time again;
Perseverance in the face of adversity is the key to being successful in sports, at school, and ultimately, in life;
Landon tennis players must respect the game, and they must show proper respect to their opponents. By truly respecting their opponent, they will also be able to be humble and grow within their own game.

Program Overview

Our Varsity Program

Athletes who participate in tennis at Landon can expect fun, winning, friendship, camaraderie, and the feeling of being a part of something bigger than yourself. By the end of a season, tennis players will have experienced lifelong memories and friendships, becoming a part of a large community of former players who will always support them, and losing with dignity or winning with grace.

Unique to our program, we have won more IAC titles than all the other schools combined. We are arguably the only school where the coaches are also classroom teachers. Our facility is second to none, and our history of national championships, IAC titles, and elite former players help us to stand out.

Program Leadership

Head Coach WT Miller '86 has been teaching and coaching at Landon since 2015.

He has been the varsity head coach since his arrival. Prior to Landon, Coach Miller served as head coach of squash and tennis at Taft School and Avon Old Farms School, both in Connecticut. After playing tennis as a student at Landon, he went on to play both tennis and squash at Tufts University before playing tennis for OS Sannois for six seasons while he worked in France. In addition to his squash responsibilities, Coach Miller teaches Upper School French and coaches varsity squash.

Accomplishments

Alumni of the tennis program have gone on to professional and collegiate careers after contributing to Landon's legacy of success.
