Ice Hockey at Landon is all about commitment, courage, and honesty.

We expect members of the Ice Hockey program to live into the core values of Landon and the hockey program on and off the ice.

The hockey program’s mission is to provide a team-oriented, fun, and safe environment in which the boys continue to develop individual skills, master collegiate level concepts of team play, and refine their ability to weather adversity in high-intensity situations.

Our student-athletes will be astute in their reflections on their practice efforts, situational awareness during games, and ability to take care of themselves off the ice.

Program Overview

Our Varsity Program

Emphasis will always be placed upon education, personal development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The individual conduct of coaches, players, and families should reflect and support these tenets.
This model should produce a level of confidence in each boy that brings success not just on the ice, but in other aspects of life.

Unique to our program, Landon plays an 18-game regular season in which the boys will always have full-ice practices 2-4 times per week. This model operates Monday-Friday to alleviate each boy's schedule on weekends. Highlights include weekly strength & conditioning and video sessions in our brand-new weight room, a yearly overnight trip to Philadelphia, and a private locker room at Rockville Ice Arena.

Program Leadership

Head Coach Alex Parker has been teaching and coaching at Landon since 2022 and has been the varsity head coach since his arrival.

Prior to Landon, Coach Parker taught Social Studies and coached varsity hockey at Wootton High School, earning a Maryland State Championship berth in 2019. In addition to coaching high school, he led four consecutive local youth hockey teams to USA Hockey Nationals, earning Bronze Medals in 2022 and 2023. As a goaltender, Coach Parker played professionally overseas in Serbia and Hungary during the 2016–2017 season after graduating from James Madison University, where he helped the Dukes win back-to-back conference championships in 2013 and 2014. In addition to his hockey responsibilities, Coach Parker teaches Upper School history and coaches JV golf.

Accomplishments

Players in our program go on to a number of levels of play after their time in our program.

Professional:

Sam Anas '11- Tied KHL single-season points record in 2026 and won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears in 2024 (and played at Quinnipiac University);
Patrick Giles (played 2014-2016 before accepting the invitation to the US National Development Team) - NHL + AHL experience (and played at Boston College).

NCAA:

Landon players have gone on to play for such NCAA programs as Boston College, Quinnipiac University, Yale University, Brown University, Princeton University, Babson College, Colby College, Middlebury College, Connecticut College, and Amherst College.

Additionally, dozens of Alumni and former players have matriculated to American Collegiate Hockey Associate (ACHA) programs.
