Swim and Dive - Landon

Swim and Dive at Landon is all about courage, perseverance, and teamwork.

We expect our athletes to compete in every facet of their sport.

They should be competitive in the pool, support their teammates, and conduct themselves with sportsmanship. They should expect the best from themselves and those around them.

Teamwork is a central tenet of the Swim and Dive program. Although much of the competition is individual, swimmers and divers as a group support other athletes in their events and push each other during practice. They also step into events based on team needs rather than personal preference.

In addition to teamwork, courage is a baseline value for swimmers and divers. On the one hand, diving is inherently risky. On the other hand, swimmers can demonstrate courage, as well as perseverance, in a different way, such as by trying a new event or stepping up to compete or practice on a day when they are not feeling their best.

Program Overview

Our Varsity Program

High school swimming and diving provides a much different experience especially for those who have competed club for most of their time. High school programs emphasize the team aspect and ask athletes to give more of themselves to the group. All athletes contribute in their own way either in the pool or on the deck. Boys who come out of the experience appreciate being in a good team environment.

We aim to bring out the best in swimmers and divers, provide access to the elite swim meets in the area. However, our program teaches strength of character, leadership, and learning to put the team first.

Unique to our program is the camaraderie among the athletes. Because we train early in the morning off-campus and bus back to school, the boys spend an extraordinary amount of time together outside of practice throughout the season. Many of the swimmers and divers cite the early mornings and bus back to campus from practice as something that brings the team closer. Also, our championship season features our strongest swimming of the season, and the boys treasure the time they spend on decks at meets supporting each other. Our team truly feels like a team despite the individual focus in the sport.

Program Leadership

Head Coach Jacob Cahill has been teaching and coaching at Landon since 2023.

He became head coach in 2025 after supporting the team as assistant coach. Prior to arriving at Landon, Coach Cahill coached swimming & diving at Westminster School in Connecticut for six years, where he led the boys’ team to be crowned New England Division II champions in 2019 and the girls’ team to the same achievement in 2023. He swam at Westminster in high school, where he served as team captain in 2012 and was a New England finalist in 2011 and 2012 before swimming at Trinity College. In addition to his water polo responsibilities, Coach Cahill teaches Upper School math and coaches varsity water polo.

Accomplishments

Many of our swimmers find that they have found a lifelong love of the sport.

Whether it be simply for fitness, coaching in the summer, or something that they pursue at a higher level, our swimmers give back to any community of which they are a part and learn that the value of swimming can stay with them throughout their lives.

Recent alums of the program have gone on to swim or dive at University of Southern California, Northwestern University, Tufts University, Middlebury College, Carleton College, Bentley University, and other strong programs.
