Two named National Merit semifinalists

Drew Curran ’20 and Alec Mearns ’20 are semifinalists for the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Drew and Alec scored in the top one percent of the 1.6 million students who took the preliminary PSAT during the fall of 2018. Those scores led the two seniors to qualify for the program, and now they will compete for one of 7,500 Merit Scholarship awards offered in 2020. Finalists will be announced in February.

The National Merit Scholarship program honors students who display the potential for excellence in their college studies. In order to be chosen as a Merit Scholar, Drew and Alec will be evaluated on standardized test scores, academic work, extracurricular activities, a letter of recommendation, and a personal essay.
