Wellness Wednesday

This blog post is a part of our Wellness Wednesday series and highlights the importance of incorporating physical activity into your daily routine. This blog was written by Landon’s Head Athletic Trainer, Mike McCormick.

The importance of physical activity has been well researched, documented, and publicized. We have seen an explosion of wearable devices that track your steps, calories, heart rate, and sleep among other things.

While yes, it is important to walk daily, it is equally important to not focus on the number of steps but to make moving part of your lifestyle. Take the stairs, go for a walk during your lunch break, squeeze a workout in before or after work or school. These may seem like difficult changes to make, however, if you find a partner to encourage you and to hold you accountable, you are more likely to enjoy it! This makes it easier for movement to become part of your lifestyle.

Landon understands the value of physical activity. In the Lower School, we have physical education, sports and recess. Sports and recess are also a part of the Middle School schedule. The Upper School has a sports requirement. No matter what time of day you walk around Landon’s beautiful campus, you are bound to see boys running around, playing games, and having fun! These sorts of activities help regulate their energy, increase their focus, build core strength and endurance and form lasting bonds with their classmates through games. These are the sorts of lessons Landon provides outside of the classroom that help cultivate changes that will last a lifetime!
