Returning Students

1. Submit your Parent Financial Statement (PFS) by December 31, 2020.  The portal will accept applications for the 2021-2022 school year starting October 1, 2020. Landon’s code is 4504.
    
2. If a current Landon family and applying for aid for the first time, please upload to the Family Portal your W-2s, 1099s, 4506-T, and most recent tax return by February 1, 2021.
    
3. Please upload to the Family Portal the just-completed 2020 income tax return including all schedules and forms by March 1, 2021 (W-2s and 1099s should have already been sent to SSS.)

New Students

Our school offers two types of financial aid: need-based and merit scholarship. “Financial need” is generally defined as the difference between what it costs a student to attend our school and what his family can afford to pay. There is no “income cutoff” or other simple method to determine whether a family will qualify for need-based aid. Landon encourages you to begin the admissions application process and apply for financial aid at the same time.

The Admissions Office is aware of a family’s interest in learning more about financial aid in order to help answer basic questions about the financial aid process. Landon admission decisions are made by an Admissions Committee which is unaware of which applicants may be applying for financial aid.  Financial aid grants are approved by the Financial Aid Committee which is independent of and separate from the Admissions Committee.  In most situations, these two application processes occur simultaneously for families, so that, when possible, families will receive both their admissions decision and financial aid award at the same time.

Landon's financial aid awards range from a small percent of tuition to almost full tuition, depending on the proven need of individual students. All families will pay some tuition. Please see the chart above for the breakdown in how we award financial aid based on gross household income.

Landon does help with other costs beyond tuition for financial aid recipients, such as required field trips, instrumental music lessons, after-school supervision for Lower and Middle School students, and Landon-sponsored bus transportation.

Yes. Landon has more students who qualify for financial aid than the school is able to fund. The school maintains a financial aid waiting list in the event funds become available.

Yes. Each student's need is recalculated annually, so you are required to submit the PFS along with the other required documents each year for review by the Financial Aid Committee.

We recognize that you have the freedom to make choices regarding your financial status. If only one parent works outside of the home, the Financial Aid Committee will add to the income of the family per school policy. An exception to this policy might occur if the parent at home is caring for a preschool-aged child, a child with a disability, a seriously ill child, parent or grandparent, or if there are other special circumstances. You should present these possible exceptions at the end of the PFS before submitting the form.

We believe that all parents have an obligation to contribute to the expense of educating their children. Assets and incomes of all natural and adoptive parents will be considered in making a financial aid award. All parents and guardians must complete the PFS and submit the required documents in order for the school to gain a realistic picture of family resources. The Financial Aid Committee will not be bound by a claim that one parent is not responsible for educational expenses.

If the custodial parent has not heard from the non-custodial parent for a period of time to be determined by the Financial Aid Committee or the involvement of the non-custodial parent is not in the best interest of the student, the above requirements may be waived. A letter of explanation and verification from a third party such as a minister, attorney or social worker will be required.

If either parent has re-married, we will consider the assets and earnings potential of the step-parent in conjunction with the natural parent and keep in mind the step-parent’s responsibility to his or her own children.

Children who live with guardians will be reviewed on an individual basis. If the parents are still alive and claim their son on their tax return, the parents and, possibly, the guardians must complete the PFS and submit the required documents. If other family members have custody, they must also complete the PFS and submit required documents. The Financial Aid Committee may require proof of custody.

If a family has new information which was not included in the PFS, the parents should include that new information in a letter to the Financial Aid Committee via the SSS Portal or by email to the Director of Financial Aid, Russ Gagarin.
