What is the mission of LEAP?

LEAP expands the learning experience beyond the school day in creative, dynamic and fun ways while supporting Landon’s core values.

Who is LEAP for?

In the 2019-20 school year, LEAP is offered to Lower School students of Landon School. The program will expand to other divisions in future years.

When is LEAP offered?

Classes are offered in three eight-week sessions throughout the school year:

  • Fall (September-November)
  • Winter (December-February)
  • Spring (March-May)

Each class meets for either 1 hour or 1.5 hours a day after school.

Dates for the 2019-20 Winter Trimester are below:

  • Mondays: Mondays, December 2, 9, 16, January 13, 27, February 3, 10 (Make Up Date: February 24)
  • Tuesdays: December 3, 10, 17, January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 4  (Make Up Date: February 11)
  • Wednesdays, December 4, 11, 18, January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5 (Make Up Date: February 12)
  • Thursdays: December 5, 12, 19, January 9, 16, 23, 30, February 6 (Make Up Date: February 13)

LEAP does not operate on days when Landon is officially closed, including vacations, conference days, staff in-service days, and when the school is closed due to inclement weather. 

How do students get to their LEAP classes?

On the first day of class, teachers will meet students at Lower School carpool and escort them to the appropriate classroom. Once students become comfortable with their classes, they will be allowed to meet the teacher directly in the classroom.

How are students dismissed from LEAP?

Students are expected to be picked up at the conclusion of their class in front of the Lower School where regular afternoon carpool takes place.

What if a student is also registered for AfterCare?

AfterCare until 6 p.m. is provided free of charge on a day when a student is also registered for a LEAP class.

What if a student rides the afternoon bus?

The late 6:15 p.m. bus will be available for round trip and afternoon riders. AfterCare will be provided free of charge until 6 p.m. on days when the student is registered for a LEAP class.

What happens if a teacher is absent?

In the case of a teacher absence, families will be informed via email of the substitute teacher. When a substitute is unavailable, students may join AfterCare at no extra cost. The class will be made up on the designated make up date.

What happens if a class is cancelled?

In the event of a canceled class due to inclement weather, teacher absence, or otherwise, class will meet on the designated make up date.

How do parents register for LEAP?

Registration for all classes takes place online on BearNet. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis for all classes.

How do parents pay for LEAP?

All class fees are billed through the SmartTuition system within two weeks of registration. No class fees are prorated.

Do financial aid students receive assistance?

Families receiving financial assistance will be expected to pay the same percentage for LEAP as they do for tuition, up to 30%.

Can parents receive a refund for canceling a class?

All fees are non-refundable. Fees will not be refunded because of the absence of the student or teacher, regardless of cause, or if school is closed due to safety concerns, inclement weather, power loss, or other emergencies. Under enrolled classes will be cancelled, in which case the class fee will be refunded.
