The varsity golf team won the Metro Championship and 23 student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments. Here is a summary of the 2026 spring sports season.
Varsity Sports
Baseball
Under the leadership of Head Coach Henry Martinez, the team had a strong season, finishing with an 18-11 overall record and a 6–4 mark in IAC play. The captains—James Gibson ’26, Jimmy Quinn ’26, Matthew Rosner ’27, and Alex Ross ’26—helped guide the team through several memorable highlights. A productive spring break trip to IMG Academy allowed the team to compete against top-tier opponents while strengthening team chemistry. They also celebrated a meaningful victory over Sidwell Friends on the day of the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the John P. Leachman Sr '45 Stadium at David Armstrong Field. Another achievement was defeating Georgetown Prep in back-to-back seasons. Following this win, the team entered the IAC tournament as the 4 seed. They went on to upset top-seeded St. Albans to reach the championship series for the third consecutive year. Individual recognitions included All-IAC honors for Jaxon Garon ’27, Gibson, Rosner, and Bo White ’26.

Golf
Head Coach Andy Luther P’29 and captains Will LeBlanc ’26 and Owen Moore ’26 led the team’s impressive IAC campaign, finishing 4-1 and earning second place in the conference. Among the standout achievements was capturing the 2026 Metro Championship, highlighted by Teddy Cooper ’27 earning medalist honors, in a win over Georgetown Prep, Gonzaga, and Paul VI. The team also turned in a strong performance at the Maryland State Independent School Championship, placing third overall after finishing only one stroke behind second-place Archbishop Spalding. Another notable accomplishment came with a victory at the 2026 Freeman Memorial Tournament, where LeBlanc secured medalist honors. Depth and consistency defined the lineup, as five different starters recorded at least one low round during matches over the course of the season. Following the IAC championship tournament, Alex Farahpour ’28 and LeBlanc received all-IAC recognition.

Lacrosse
Under the guidance of Head Coach Will McGettigan and captains Mack Cohen ’26, Carter DeSanto ’26, JT Mathura ’26, and Makana Neverosky ’26, the team compiled a solid 10-6 overall record, including a 3-2 mark in IAC play. One of the standout moments came with an impressive road victory over Gonzaga in a night game atmosphere, while the team also demonstrated resilience in a competitive showing against nationally ranked Culver Academy during spring break. Two closely contested overtime losses to eventual IAC tournament champion Georgetown Prep highlighted the team’s ability to compete at a high level against top opponents. Six student-athletes earned All-IAC honors: Cohen, DeSanto, Jonas Hawkins ’27, Mathura, James Schmitt ’27, and Sean Steis ’27. In addition, Mathura earned Academic All-American recognition, underscoring his excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

Outdoor Track & Field
With Head Coach Griffin Gagnon at the helm, the team benefited from the leadership of captains Alan Everett ’26, Njuguna Ngugi ’26, and Amad Sangare ’26 while continuing to build both performance and depth. A standout achievement came at the IAC championship meet, where Alex Henderson ’26 captured the pole vault title and set a new school record with a jump of 13’6”. Raj Gandotra ’27 also made an impact by earning a third-place finish in the discus. On the national stage, Landon qualified both its 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams for the prestigious Penn Relays, underscoring the program’s competitiveness. The season also saw encouraging growth internally, including improved retention from indoor to outdoor track and field and the emergence of a number of younger athletes poised to play significant roles in the years ahead. Henderson’s performance earned him All-IAC honors, highlighting his exceptional season.

Rugby
Guided by Head Coach Sam Tyler, the team navigated a season of growth while finishing with a 3-4 record. Captains Kirtan Buchwald ’27, Nick Davidoff ’26, and Seba Rutledge ’26 helped foster a culture of adaptability, with players stepping confidently into new roles and carrying out their responsibilities effectively. The squad earned notable victories over St. John’s, The Heights, and Alexandria City High School, demonstrating its ability to rise to the occasion against strong competition. Another highlight came in a matchup with defending league champion DeMatha, where the team delivered an exceptional performance in the second half, showcasing resilience and determination that set the tone for continued development. At the conclusion of the season, Buchwald and Rowan Hetherington ’26 were awarded All-MAVRC honors, and Jordan Boos ’26, Davidoff, and Cian Schimmelpfennig ’26 were named Honorable Mention All-MAVRC.

Tennis
Head Coach WT Miller ’86 led the team to an impressive 10-3 overall record, including a strong 4-1 showing in IAC competition. Captains Jeremy Chud ’26 and Frank Wang ’26 anchored the squad with steady leadership throughout the season. Among the year’s key accomplishments were two victories over St. Albans, underscoring the team’s competitive edge within the league, and a second-place finish in the IAC standings. The team also earned a third-place result at the Schafer Invitational doubles tournament, highlighting its depth and skill in doubles play. Individual recognition followed, with Mervin Bai ’29, Roberto DeVoto ’27, and Wang receiving All-IAC honors for their standout performances.
