Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) and former Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA) visited Landon for a thoughtful conversation about civil and bipartisan leadership during our Nelson Leadership Lecture. The theme for this year’s assembly was “Civil and Bipartisan Leadership in Uncivil and Polarizing Times.”
The two public servants shared the experiences and role models that shaped their approach to civil and purposeful leadership. The conversation was moderated by Paul L. Banfield Chair in Ethics John Bellaschi, P '21, and Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Karla Cohen, P ’21 ’23 ’26.
The Christopher Nelson '86 Memorial Leadership Fund was established by the Nelson family, including brothers John '82 and Peter '90, and their friends, to honor the memory of Chris Nelson, who lost his battle with leukemia in 1982. Chris lived a joyful and purposeful life in which he modeled inspiring kindness, leadership, and civility. The fund supports an annual lecture series on leadership and excellence in a particular field of endeavor at assembly programs for the entire student body.
