Landon artists swept the painting category at the 10th annual Winter Independent School Juried Exhibition hosted by Stone Ridge School. Everett Mascott ’28, Cole Campbell ’27, Mac Imperatore ’27 earned first, second, and third place, respectively.
“I was extremely honored when the judge called me first, and I didn’t know what to say,” said Mascott, who painted a peaceful fall forest. “I was so happy that I had teachers who believed in me and my skills, and I was proud of Landon when we swept the category.”

With 12 schools represented and more than 300 pieces of artwork on display, the event showcased the impressive creativity and talent found across the region. The three winning painters were among 18 Landon students with artwork displayed at the Fitzpatrick Family Gallery.
For Imperatore, who painted a snowy mountain scene, the recognition reflects not only personal achievement but also the strength of Landon’s arts program. He credits his studio art teachers, Ricky Sears ’99 and Polina Protsenko, for cultivating an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired.

“I never knew I could accomplish such things, and I would have continued to never know if it had not been for these two,” he said. “The environment of being able to walk into the studio during a free period and just paint is such a relaxing experience that allows me to open up my creativity.”
He also pointed out that Landon encourages students to explore multiple passions.
“You don't have to put yourself in a singular category. ... Many peers of mine said that they did not even know that I painted, so this allows me to showcase something I am proud of. The awards are awesome, but the true meaning to me is the open space to create and show people what I love to do."
Director of Studio and Performing Arts Chris Ros echoed this pride, noting the quality of the boys’ work and the dedication behind it.
“Their work is absolutely amazing and breathtaking,” he said. “I had the opportunity to walk into the painting studio to see these works in progress. Not only is that a treat to watch, but observing Ricky and Polina interacting with the boys and helping them to pull out new and different aspects of their work is truly priceless. We are lucky to have such talented and dedicated faculty working with them. Congratulations to all the boys and teachers!”
